Prepare for ICD-10-CM and Anesthesia Compliance With In-Service Webinars To Be Held August and September

Exclusive for Anesthesia Business Consultants' Clients

This radical change in the way diagnosis and medical necessity is documented will have a profound impact on each and every anesthesia practice. This change is not something that ABC can resolve for our clients in a vacuum. There are many dimensions and implications to the implementation of such a significant change in the claims adjudication process that will affect clinical documentation requirements, the relationship between anesthesia providers and surgeons and even practice cashflow.

While there is much that we do know, and which we are eager to share with you, there is also much that we do not know. Forewarned is forearmed. The implementation date is only two months away, we must all prepare for the transition and engage in some serious strategic planning.

To this end, ABC is offering a series of Webinars for all providers to explain the changes coming and give you some general guidance for the new documentation standards that will be required. These carefully planned sessions are a critical step for you to understand and appreciate the significance and implications of a much closer focus on and review of diagnostic documentation.

Our comprehensive agenda includes:

  • What is ICD-10?
  • How firm is the new target date?
  • Do the surgical and anesthesia diagnoses need to match?
  • What are the implications of ICD-10 with regard to anesthesia documentation?
  • How does diagnosis coding work?
  • What are the primary areas of concern?
  • Who is responsible for an accurate diagnosis?
  • Practical Suggestions.

Anesthesia Compliance and ICD-10 Introduction In-Service Webinars

Sessions Extended, July - August, 2014

ABC, is offering a series of webinars regarding anesthesia compliance along with an introduction to ICD-10 for all providers. This webinar will go over many compliance issues that face our providers today as well as to explain the changes coming next year for ICD-10. The ICD-10 information will give you some general guidance for the new documentation standards that will be required. These carefully planned sessions are a critical first step for you to understand and appreciate the significance and implications of a much closer focus on and review of the new diagnostic system ICD-10 as well as a review of the most common documentation issues for procedure coding.

Many hold the term compliance in a negative light, however, good clinical documentation for both procedures and diagnosis protects your practice and often times increases revenue. This session will give you many tips how to document for optimal anesthesia reimbursement by decreasing denials due to insufficient information.

ICD-10 is coming in October of next year. Although the actual implementation date is a year away, we must all prepare for the transition and engage in some serious strategic planning.

Webinar for Anesthesia Providers on the ICD-10 Conversion
Anesthesia Providers:  Are You Ready for ICD-10? The Impact on Coding & Billing

Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. EST

Less than one year from now, the implementation of ICD-10 will impact anesthesia and pain medicine practices across the country. According to CMS, “On October 1, 2014, the ICD-9 code sets used to report medical diagnosis and inpatient procedures will be replaced by ICD-10 code sets.  The transition to ICD-10 is required for everyone covered by HIPAA.”  The delay in implementation by one year gave payors, vendors and practices time to prepare, yet the question to be answered is “Are You Ready for ICD-10?”

Anesthesia Business Consultants is offering all interested parties an opportunity to attend an educational webinar on the topic. Darlene Helmer, CMA, CPC, ACS-AN, CMPE, MBA, ABC’s Vice President for Provider Education and Training, will discuss the steps that anesthesia providers should consider taking to prepare for ICD-10 in a webinar to be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013.

Topic: Are You Ready for ICD-10? The Impact on Coding & Billing
Date: Wednesday, November 20, 2013
Time: 5:00 pm, Eastern Standard Time (New York, GMT-05:00)
Meeting Number: 634 108 135

Webinar for Clients on the Final HIPAA Privacy, Security and Breach Notification Rules

Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. EST

New HIPAA regulations on notifying patients and others of privacy and security breaches go into effect on March 26, 2013.  Anesthesia and pain medicine practices will need to update their policies and procedures (and their Notices of Privacy Practices) to be in compliance.  The regulations also extend the definitions and consequence of “business associate” status, and practices should review their business associate agreements to meet the new requirements.

Anesthesia Business Consultants is offering all clients an opportunity to attend an educational webinar on the topic.  Karin Bierstein, JD, MPH, ABC’s Vice President for Strategic Planning and Practice Affairs, will discuss the steps that clients should consider taking in a webinar to be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013.
