Jackson, MI, July, 15, 2008 - Anesthesia Business Consultants, LLC (ABC) is proud to announce that we have entered into a partnership with Quantum, Inc. to offer the Quantum Clinical Navigation System™ (Quantum) to anesthesiology groups.

The Quantum software is an important option for groups already using ABC’s proprietary billing and practice management system, F1RSTAnesthesia™.
Quantum is a complete program that allows an anesthesiology group to track individual and group performance on about 50 indicators of clinical and operating room quality. Quantum was designed by physicians for physicians to track clinical performance, patient satisfaction, OR efficiency and clinical outcomes across the perioperative care continuum.
Data are entered real-time, using a tool that requires less than a minute to complete. The information is then analyzed to create a continuous feedback loop that can help a practice or a department to improve outcomes, modify clinician practice and apply a systems approach to decrease inappropriate variation and medical errors.
A system of audits and special alert emails to physicians, in addition to daily individual emails with the results of recent cases, allows clinicians and administrators to understand the areas in which they need to learn new and better practices. Physicians trust this evidence based approach to process improvement.
The 50 quality indicators in Quantum are based on national initiatives including the CMS Physician Quality Reporting System and the Surgical Care Improvement Project as well as JCAHO. Among the indicators are the incidences of post-operative strokes and heart attacks.
Quantum has helped to reduce the occurrence of these complications through 10 years of field-testing by anesthesiologists with over 100,000 patients per year in more than a dozen hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers. Given an average cost to treat these two surgical complications of $9,982 (stroke) and $38,501(heart attack), the financial modelingbased on actual results revealed an average annual savings of $4.5 million to $7.2 million with a patient population of 95,205. If the same financial model is applied nationally, billions of dollars could be saved in these two categories alone.
By helping to reduce not just surgical complication rates but also OR inefficiencies such as habitual late starts and case cancellations, Quantum has proven attractive to anesthesia departments. Anesthesiology groups implementing Quantum – or indeed attempting any systematic performance improvement program – can make themselves invaluable to their institutions through their ability to improve OR quality measurably and continuously, as well as through their ability to help hospitals satisfy their own Pay-for-Performance goals.
“Many of our clients have been looking for a performance tracking program that will allow them to use new quality benchmarking approaches and to get ready to participate in P4P systems,” says Tony Mira, President & CEO of ABC. Quantum is the most comprehensive, most highly tested and proven continuous quality feedback loop system in the market today.
ABC looks forward to launching several other specialized technology tools in the next few months that will further benefit anesthesiology groups. Like Quantum, these will be optional tools that will complement and expand upon the services we provide through F1RSTAnesthesia™ .
